EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS :
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Management or a related field with at least 5 years supervisory experience in housekeeping at a health care facility. The incumbent must possess strong communication and leadership skills. Must be a Registered Manager of Environmental Sanitation (preferred) or a Certified Executive Housekeeper.
PHYSICAL / MENTAL QUALIFICATIONS :
- Must understand the principles of supervision and management, housekeeping (maintenance), and aseptic.
- Must be mentally and physically stable with no hearing and / or vision impairments.
- Must be able to cope with the daily pressures of coordination and directing the maintenance department and ensure sanitation of facilities.
SCOPE :
Maintains the building, grounds, and equipment on a 24 / 7 basis. Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the maintenance department and all safety and security aspects of the facility in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Establishes and controls procedures and methods for developing work programs for maintenance staff engaged in operating and maintaining electric, water, heat, air-conditioning, sewage treatment plant, refrigeration and kitchen equipment.Coordinates preventative maintenance programs and oversees carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, masonry, plastering, and other types of maintenance and repair work.Requests for and manages department-related contractual services, including capital projects, repairs, renovation and services.Prepares economic analysis, budgets and cost expenditure reports for administrator. May be required to provide technical advice and / or directions for other departments regarding structural changes, equipment purchases and repairs.Establishes and maintains an on-going training and in-service program to provide staff and instructs supervisory management classes. Maintains appropriate records for services provided.Directs and coordinates activities of maintenance department including but not limited to supervising, hiring, terminating, promoting, demoting, disciplining, counseling, scheduling, and evaluating employees’ performances as necessary.Meets with administrator, department staff and other departments and vendors to achieve coordination, resolve problems, establish new procedures and test new products. Attends all required meetings.Prepares and maintains reports related to department activities, inspections, equipment, etc. and conducts inspections for all areas of the facility.Monitors and controls departmental budget and performs other duties as assigned by administration.Maintains work flow and quality to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned workloads and control operating costs.Ensures department staff maintains facility in sanitized condition as required by the Infection Control Officer.Establishes staffing patterns, scheduling and vacations.Establishes departmental policies and abides by facility policies and procedures.Delegates responsibility to supervisory staff and requests supervisor to fill vacancies and / or staff to accomplish work requirements.Interviews and selects applicants for positions.Resolves complaints and disciplines employees when necessary.Researches and tests chemicals and mechanical equipment for facility use.Manages and operates housekeeping and laundry equipment and supplies
