American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position requiring at least 1.5 years of experience and current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in the PreOp-PACU department of a hospital with both pre-operative and post-anesthesia care responsibilitiesServe a diverse patient population ranging from infants to geriatrics, focusing primarily on adult and geriatric casesTypical patient ratios are Pre-Op 1 : 2-3, PACU 1 : 1 or 1 : 2, Phase 2 1 : 2-4, dependent on patient acuity and needsFacility is equipped with 24 Pre-Op / Phase 2 beds and 19 PACU bedsCare includes preparing and discharging Endo patients and managing ambulatory, elective, acute care, and trauma casesUse of Epic EMR and Omnicell equipment12-hour variable shifts with possible day or night scheduling; night shifts grouped consecutivelyWeekend call rotation required every three weeks, with on-call shifts during overnights and holidaysFloating may be required to PreOp, PACU, Endo prep / discharge, and Phase 2 areas within scope of practiceResponse time for on-call is 15 minutes, and a sleep room is availableResponsibilities include pre-op prep, PACU recovery, Phase 2 care, and Endo prep / discharge without intra-op Endo dutiesMay be required to care for boarded patients when inpatient beds are unavailableSupport provided by nurse aides, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV / VAT teams, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and anesthesia / CRNAGeneral and unit-specific orientation provided, including one week where each day is spent in a different departmentHoliday call shifts are rotated among call teams, with the expectation to work two holidays per yearRequests for time off are considered by management; no time off is approved for the first three weeks of August annuallyRequired to wear navy blue scrubsFree parking available in garage onsite\n \n Requirements\n
Active RN license in South Dakota or Compact stateCompletion of an approved nursing education programMinimum of 1.5 years recent nursing experience requiredCurrent BLS, ACLS, and PALS certificationsCritical care experience and competency with ICU cases, including hemodynamic drips and ventilators, required for night shift rolesMust be proficient in IV insertion, epidural / PCA setup, blood product transfusion initiation, moderate sedation administration, and critical thinkingComfortable with all aspects of pre-op, recovery, and patient dischargePrior Epic EMR experience preferred; facility approval required if noneNo first-time travelers will be consideredCandidates must reside outside a 100-mile radius; local travelers not accepted\n Benefits\n
