Trust Accountant Specialist

The Trust Accountant is responsible for managing client trust accounts, ensuring accurate record-keeping, compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and safeguarding client funds. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of accounting principles, and familiarity with legal industry standards, particularly those related to trust account management (e.g., IOLTA accounts). The Trust Accountant works closely with Finance Manager to maintain financial integrity and transparency.

E ssential Responsibilities and Duties

• Trust Account Management :

Maintain and reconcile client trust accounts, ensuring accurate tracking of funds held in trust for clients.

Ensure adherence to state-specific trust accounting rules, such as Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (IOLTA) regulations.

Maintain accurate ledgers for each clients trust account, documenting all transactions.

Work with attorneys and legal staff to verify trust account activities, such as client payments or settlement distributions.

Utilize legal accounting software (e.g., Litify, QuickBooks, Workday) to manage trust accounts and generate reports.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.

Strong knowledge of accounting principles and trust account regulations.

Certified Bookkeeper or similar certification is a plus.
