Job Title : Grant Writer

Classification : Full-time, Non-Exempt

Reporting Relationship : Reports to the Chief Executive Officer

Supervises Others : No

Essential Role : Responsible for identifying grant opportunities, managing submission deadlines, grant writing and editing. Will assist with securing financial support for the mission and programs of GraceMed through grants and philanthropy from government entities, foundations, corporations, individuals and families, churches and associations, and other appropriate sources.

Position will focus primarily on maintaining and improving the strength of GraceMed's current government and foundation grants program. In addition, the position will assist in development of our robust grant data reporting system. Along with board members and other GraceMed staff, this position may also engage in public policy and advocacy activities on behalf of the health center's mission. This position will also represent GraceMed's mission with integrity and passion to community and to GraceMed's staff.

Works with Chief Executive Officer and senior managers to ensure the GraceMed ministry has the appropriate level of resources to underwrite each year's annual operating budget. Supports capital campaign efforts to expand or replace capital assets for ministry use.

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Understands government funding sources and foundation funding sources well enough to seek and identify funding opportunities.
  • Writes, reviews, and oversees the development of grant applications and funding requests, including development of all grant associated required documents.
  • Understands GraceMed's programs well enough to identify their funding needs and well enough to articulate those needs to the donor community.
  • Gathers and analyzes information about the healthcare needs of GraceMed's targeted communities and articulates those needs to the donor community.
  • Identifies individual donors and creates systems for seeking support.
  • Provides consistent communication to GraceMed leadership, assisting in ensuring that leaders are kept up to date on grant funding progress and donor challenges.
  • Identifies and reports progress on key measures of productivity.
  • Performs other duties as required to assist GraceMed in achieving its mission.

Qualifications :

Education / Certifications / Licenses / Registrations

  • Associate's degree or minimum of 3 years in the field of federal grant writing, and nonprofit fundraising or resource development, preferably in health care.
  • Must have successfully written and received government grant funding.
  • Experience

  • Must demonstrate successful accomplishments in at least 2 of the following areas : corporate relations, direct mail, annual giving, major gifts, database management, donor relations, volunteer management, capital campaigns, prospect research, e-philanthropy, etc.
  • Technical Skills

  • Must possess the ability to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions. Required to read, write and speak English fluently. Strong editing and communication skills (written and oral) needed.
  • Must have excellent organizational and analytical skills in order to oversee the ongoing grant process. Strong financial skills are a plus.
  • Behavioral

  • Problems may arise outside established policies. This position requires high- level skill in problem solving and the ability to work independently.
  • Must have ability to make good decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to interact with staff at all levels, other government officials, governing boards, private agencies, auditors, and contractors.
  • W ork Schedule : Normal schedule is Monday through Friday 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm. Work hours may vary.

    W orking Conditions :

    Medical office environment. Multi-task oriented position. May require sitting for long periods of time. Some bending, stooping, and lifting (up to 20lbs). Must interact with patients, the general public, other office personnel, and physicians. May involve contact with angry, upset or ill persons. Must have visual acuity and manual dexterity to interface with computer. Must have auditory acuity to handle heavy phone call load and interact with patients effectively. Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time to various locations in Kansas.
