Position Summary :
The LVT in the ICU is responsible for providing high-quality pre- and post-operative care to surgical patients. This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The ICU Technician works collaboratively with veterinarians, fellow technicians, and support staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes and excellent client service.
Key Responsibilities : ICU Patient Care
- Provide attentive and compassionate care for hospitalized surgical patients, with a focus on post-operative recovery and pain management.
- Perform treatments, administer medications, and monitor patient progress following established protocols.
- Assist with patient feeding, hydration, and mobility, ensuring dietary and rehabilitation requirements are met.
- Conduct rehabilitation and physical therapy treatments as prescribed, including :
Ice application
Cold compression sleeve therapyPassive range of motion exercisesCold laser therapyMaintain accurate patient records, including treatment sheets, medication administration logs, and charge capture in VetRadar.Patient Monitoring and Treatment
Monitor vital signs, pain levels, and overall condition of post-operative patients.Recognize and promptly report changes in patient status to veterinarians.Ensure timely completion of treatments and documentation of all necessary procedures.Provide appropriate post-operative care, including wound management and bandage changes.Assist in preparing patients for discharge and educating pet owners on home care instructions.Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with veterinarians, surgical technicians, and other ICU staff to ensure seamless patient care.Communicate patient updates effectively to the next shift during rounds.Assist in ensuring all patient needs are met before shift changes to maintain continuity of care.Maintain a positive and professional demeanor when interacting with clients and colleagues.Inventory and Equipment Management
Ensure medical supplies and equipment are well-stocked and properly maintained.Report any equipment malfunctions or supply shortages to the appropriate personnel.Skills and Qualifications :
Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) with current licensure.Strong knowledge of veterinary clinical procedures, patient care, and post-operative recovery.Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to remain calm and focused during high-pressure situations.Proficiency with computers and veterinary documentation systems.Team-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.Physical ability to stand for long periods and assist with lifting or moving patients and equipment.Work Environment :
This position requires working in a dynamic ICU setting, providing hands-on patient care while maintaining a collaborative and supportive team environment.
Reporting Structure :
The ICU Technician reports directly to the Surgery Services Manager and ICU Lead and works closely with the Surgical Floor Leads to ensure seamless patient care.
