Overview

Agnitron is seeking a hands-on, technically driven Automation Technician to support the development and integration of advanced semiconductor processing systems. This role bridges mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines—ideal for someone who thrives in R&D environments. The technician will assist in wiring and maintaining industrial automation systems, support real-time diagnostics, and collaborate closely with engineers to implement and refine custom control solutions for one-of-a-kind tools used in semiconductor research and manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the build, wiring, and troubleshooting of custom high- and low-voltage automation assemblies and industrial control panels.
  • Support software and electrical engineering teams in integrating sensors, PLCs, motion controls, and safety systems.
  • Diagnose and repair control system issues involving PLCs, embedded controllers, and serial / EtherCAT devices.
  • Conduct routine inspection, calibration, and maintenance on internally developed MOCVD and RTA equipment.
  • Review and modify electrical schematics and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD.
  • Provide feedback to design engineers to improve manufacturability and serviceability of automation systems.
  • Assist with the testing and bring-up of new software and hardware in prototype systems.
  • Document build processes and configuration changes for future replication and scaling.
  • Help support basic field service tasks or on-site integration work as needed.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the Visual Studio development environment. Some experience with Windows C# programming using VS, debugging and testing C# programs, object-oriented design. 1+ years of experience preferred.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Some experience with Ladder Logic or Structured Text. 1+ years of experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience wiring low voltage (up to 48VDC) devices and industrial equipment. 1+ years of experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of serial communications protocols and wiring (RS232, RS485, RS422).
  • Working knowledge of DeviceNet fundamentals, especially polling data communications; understanding power requirements and network topology.
  • Familiarity with EtherCAT networking and devices.
  • Familiarity with Modbus over RS485 and Modbus over TCP.
  • Familiarity with Beckhoff embedded PC / PLC hardware and EtherCAT devices is a plus.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand the working and control principles of new devices via manuals, internet searches, experts, AI, and other sources.
  • Experience with wiring high-voltage (up to 480VAC) AC circuits is a plus.
