Purpose Of Position

Under direct supervision, perform high-speed printing systems printing large and small jobs for the District. Provides preventative maintenance on equipment and monitors inventory on paper and printing supplies.

Under direct supervision, perform high-speed printing systems printing large and small jobs for the District. Provides preventative maintenance on equipment and monitors inventory on paper and printing supplies.

Hours Of Position

Monday-Friday, 6 : 45 am - 3 : 15 pm

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Technical & Operational Duties (55%)
  • Review requests and determine how printing jobs will be handled. Providing support and advice to other departments and schools regarding printing requests and Print Shop capabilities.
  • Inspect work in progress and results / efforts for quality and adherence to production standards.
  • Maintain records related to print requests, jobs, and maintenance.
  • Research and report discrepancies between requests and finished projects.
  • Respond to questions and resolve problems pertaining to the Print Shop.
  • Operate post-press equipment.
  • Operate high-speed printers.
  • Provide maintenance on all equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance of accurate records for inventory and production management purposes.
  • Provide support related to procedures involving materials, production, and or distribution to schools and departments.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels (printing supplies, paper, etc.) and place orders as needed / approved.
  • File and maintain accurate records according to established guidelines.
  • Prepare and finalize computerized digital files, including images sent via computer and MMSD applications.
  • Leadership & Administrative Duties (40%)
  • Lead the work of the small crew of press operators, the total number of which varies.
  • Manage all large volume, priority, and / or periodic / repetitive (weekly, monthly, annually, etc.) printing requests / jobs to ensure the Print Shop has all that is needed to succeed.
  • Participate in hiring and coaching staff.
  • Assess training needs and provide training and coaching of staff as needed.
  • Assign, adjust, and coordinate workflow and staff work duties and schedules.
  • Participate in meetings with management to recommend, plan, and implement new procedures and / or improvement efforts.
  • Lead staff in the operation and general maintenance of equipment.
  • Training District staff concerning appropriate printing procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned (5%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned by executive leadership or their representatives or designees.
  • Attend staff meetings pertaining to printing requests and needs.
  • Attend district and school functions that support MMSD's strategic framework, initiatives, and core values.
  • Complete any and all District required training.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities To Perform Essential Job Functions

  • Increasingly responsible experience in printing or experience providing similar training / skills.
  • Previous experience in a printing occupation.
  • Lead / supervisory experience in a positive manner.
  • Experience establishing, monitoring, utilizing, and reporting production standards.
  • Decision-making experience related to cost-effectively outsourcing printing needs and maximizing resources.
  • Knowledge of color inks, register work and a wide variety of paper stock and other supplies used in printing.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety practices.
  • Ability to read, follow directions, maintain accurate records, and pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate / relate effectively, efficiently, tactfully, and positively with individuals with diverse backgrounds, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment, technology, methods and workflow and exhibit positive communication skills related to these changes.
  • Ability to cope with problem-solving and interruptions.
  • Ability to work independently under stressful conditions handling multiple tasks and taking direction from multiple sources.
  • Ability to provide consistent and excellent customer service skills.

  • Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Professional work experience meeting deadlines while reproducing various printed materials from electronic files or hard copy originals.
  • Experience and knowledge in the use of personal computers, including manipulation of images within documents, Adobe Creative Suite, e-mail, and the ability to transfer documents electronically, internet searching capability, and other related technology.

    Physical Requirements

    This position requires the physical ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds on a repetitive basis. The role involves frequent walking, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, and handling of heavy materials. Employees must be free from known allergies to printing chemicals or paper dust, as exposure to these substances is routine in the work environment.

    Working Conditions

  • This position operates in a shop-like environment that may be subject to prolonged exposure to high noise levels, strong chemical odors, and significant temperature fluctuations. Employees must be able to work safely and effectively under these conditions, which are inherent to the nature of the work and the materials used.
  • This position requires in-person work at the employee's assigned location but may include some travel to different locations within the district.
