Firefighter
This is a firefighter performing skilled emergency medical rescue work at the highly responsible level. Employees in this class are responsible on an assigned shift for responding to emergency and routine alarms received from a standard signal system or by other means. An incumbent at this level must be certified as a Maryland Cardiac Rescue Technician - Intermediate and a Maryland Firefighter or equivalent. Performance evaluation is based on actions on the scene, dealing with the public and performance at the Fire Station.
Salary : Based on a 45-hour work week.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following :
May act as a person in charge of an advanced life support crew; responds to medical emergencies, vehicular accidents, fires, and other emergencies under all kinds of weather conditions.Provides basic and advanced life support as directed by Maryland Medical Protocols and as directed by physician consultation. Management techniques include drug administration, defibrillation, synchronized cardioversion, endotracheal intubation, use of biomedical telemetry, and other techniques as outlined by the state and local protocol. Completes patient care reports using paper-based and computerized records management systems.Operates tools, appliances and equipment associated with fire, emergency medical and rescue services, such as self-contained breathing apparatus, auxiliary lighting equipment, fire pumps, cardiac monitors / defibrillators, airway maintenance equipment such as laryngoscopes, suction devices, and airway adjuncts, specialized splinting equipment, and other biomedical equipment.Performs disinfection, general, and preventive maintenance of biomedical equipment to ensure safety and adequate performance; performs general maintenance and housekeeping duties in and around the fire station.Other duties may be assigned.Qualifications to perform this job successfully include :
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).Successful completion of an EMT-I courses and 1 year experience as a provider of emergency medical services and fire service.Must undergo in-service training in accordance with the directives of the coordinating council.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations :
Valid Class "B" Non-Commercial Driver's License. Individuals who do not have a valid Class B license must obtain Class B license within 90 days of appointment.Certification by the American Heart Association in basic and advanced cardiac life support.Must be Maryland licensed as a Cardiac Rescue Technician or be nationally registered as an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate (EMT-I). If EMT-Is not Maryland licensed must obtained a Maryland license within 60 days of appointment.Maryland firefighter I certification or equivalent.Other Skills and Abilities :
Thorough knowledge of emergency medical techniques and methods, medical protocols, and have the ability to apply such knowledge to specific situations.Thorough knowledge of operation of all apparatus, equipment, methods used in combating, extinguishing and preventing fires and in rescue work.Advanced knowledge of the correct methods and techniques of operating and caring for the tools, appliances, equipment and protective clothing basic to firefighting and emergency medical services under emergency situations.Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in emergency medical, firefighting, and rescue activities.Basic understanding of personal computers and office application software and e-mail.Ability to carry out instructions received from the consulting emergency physician.Language Skills :
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the Town.Reasoning Ability :
