Overview
The Peer Review Specialist provides leadership and coordination for the provider peer review processes across the facilities and service areas within Mount Carmel Health System and affiliate joint venture businesses as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Exhibits each of the Mount Carmel Service Excellence Behavior Standards holding self and others accountable and role modeling excellence for all to see. For example : demonstrates friendliness and courtesy, effective communication creates a professional environment and provides first class service.
- Meets population specific and all other competencies according to department requirements.
- Promotes a Culture of Safety by adhering to policy, procedures and plans that are in place to prevent workplace injury, violence or adverse outcome to associates and patients.
- Relationship-based Care : Creates a caring and healing environment that keeps the patient and family at the center of care throughout their experience at Mount Carmel following the principles of our interdisciplinary care delivery system.
- Provides nursing care, ensures an environment of patient safety, promotes evidence-based practice and quality initiatives and exhibits professionalism in nursing practice within the model of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program. (For patient care providers)
- Supports Clinical Performance Improvement Activities
- Maintains knowledge of clinical indicators and compliance requirements
- Provides concurrent medical record review for assigned clinical indicator documentation
- Provides regular feedback to clinical staff, managers and educators
- Receives verbal and / or places orders as required in support of quality measure compliance
- Identifies learning needs related to national hospital quality measures and provides individual education. Refers to professional practice educators as indicated
- Provides support for the development of improvement strategies, researches, communicates and incorporates best practice
- Manages Outcomes Data
- Maintains expertise in clinical documentation systems
- Serves as an internal consultant to clinical departments in documentation requirements
- Manages assigned clinical databases to assure nationally accepted definitions are being adhered to, and that comparative data are accurate, complete and current
- Manages systems and processes for reporting to staff, managers, and other leadership
- Manages daily exception reporting process, including follow-up with clinical staff and adherence to escalation policies
- Supports Quality / Care Management Division-wide Goals and Initiatives
- Assists with surveys of the hospital performed by Joint Commission, CMS and other regulatory agencies
- Participates on hospital committees as assigned
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director
Requirements / Qualifications
Education : Bachelor\'s degree in healthcare related field requiredLicensure / Certification : As required by disciplineExperience : Thorough knowledge of healthcare systems with at least three (3) years of clinical, hospital experiencePrior experience in performance improvement and / or outcomes management preferredEffective Communication SkillsStrong written and verbal skills, including the ability to provide education to professional staff and physiciansStrong interpersonal skillsDemonstrated ability in computer usage and software applicationsReads, writes, speaks and comprehends the English languageDiscovering opportunities, support and excellence – all while making a real difference in patients' lives – begins at Mount Carmel.
