Consultant, Contract Underwriting - E&S / Specialty (Contract+)
Nationwide's Property and Casualty team is seeking a qualified Underwriting Consultant for the Excess & Surplus / Specialty (E&S / S) line in a Contract+ unit. Ideal candidates have five+ years of brokerage casualty (GL) underwriting experience in the E&S / non-admitted market.

This role involves underwriting individual risks for acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms and conditions, by developing, analyzing and evaluating information and exposures on increasingly complex risks with a high level of authority. You will aim to achieve production and loss ratio goals with assigned brokers and program managers by reviewing claims history and taking appropriate action on accounts, driving profit and premium to meet financial goals through developing, negotiating and implementing business plans.

Reporting Relationships
Reports to Department Manager. Direct reports : Up to 3 employees (indirect reports typically assigned).
Typical Skills And Experiences
Education : Undergraduate studies; completion of general insurance courses (e.g., CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, ASLI) preferred.
Experience : Eight years of underwriting experience handling large or complex programs and accounts; E&S experience preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills : Effective written and oral communication; negotiation; project leadership; experience with wholesale / general agency distribution; ability to analyze highly complex risks; familiarity with various rating plans and reinsurance; proficiency with relevant software; ability to mentor others and train stakeholders.
Other criteria and leadership competencies may take precedence. Staffing exceptions require VP or HR approval. Nationwide Values are demonstrated regularly.
Job Conditions
Overtime eligibility : Not Eligible (Exempt). Working conditions : Normal office environment; extended / non-standard hours based on project and deliverables. ADA : Standard statement of essential functions and potential variation by role.
