DEFINITION OF POSITION

The Certified Nurse Aide I / Telemetry Tech is responsible for administering direct patient care in a courteous, caring manner, and performing any other duties deemed necessary to ensure optimal patient care, under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse. The Certified Nurse Aide I interacts with unit staff members, patients, patient's family members, and other departments to ensure the comfort and safety for all patients on the unit.

Provides constant surveillance of EKG wave-forms from a centralized monitoring station. The position tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to :

Interprets cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias including PR interval, ST segment, QT intervals.

Reports significant changes in heart rate / rhythm to appropriate nursing staff.

Maintains telemetry supplies.

Records events utilizing computer documentation systems.

Follows hospital's infection control policies as required.

The following criteria must be met before delegation of any task :

Task is performed frequently in the daily care of a client or group of clients

Task is performed according to an established sequence of steps

Task may be performed with a predictable outcome

Task does not involve on-going assessment, interpretation or decision-making that cannot be logically separated from the task itself.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional

High school education or equivalent.

Maintains listing with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Health Service Regulation, Healthcare Personnel Registry as a Nurse Aide I.

Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.

Working knowledge of medical terminology.

Basic understanding of computers and / or the desire and aptitude to learn.

Completion of basic EKG arrhythmia course.

Demonstrated ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias
