The Opportunity

The Instructional Aide will help differentiate instruction and provide a high level of support for students who have diverse learning needs.

What You Will Do :

  • Collaborates with teachers on in-class instructional strategies for academic and behavioral support that best serves a diverse group of learners.
  • Provides student support in literacy / math content, following teacher guidance on best practices for instruction, note taking, small group or station work, and other in class support as needed.
  • Works with small groups of students in an instructional capacity, reteaching specific lessons as needed.
  • Tutors students, individually or in groups, to reinforce learning concepts
  • Provides supervision for students before school and during the school day as assigned to ensure safety of all students including traffic duties / diaper changing as needed
  • Attend weekly professional development and staff meetings
  • Implement provided curriculum
  • Assist with clerical duties such as record keeping, filing, correcting papers and data collection
  • Attend student progress meetings or IEPs as requested
  • Assists in understanding and supporting appropriate student behavior, this may include diapering duties as well depending on grade level and student needs
  • Establishes and maintains a cooperative working relationship with staff members
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned / required by supervisor or site administrator(s) including traffic duties etc.
  • Follow established policies, procedures and processes as found in the Family and Employee Handbooks
  • Be punctual for work and avoid making appointments during scheduled work time
  • Establish and maintain professional relations and show patience with parents, teachers and other staff
  • Identify and respond to student behavior through restorative practices

Qualifications

  • Experience working with youth in any educational or child care setting
  • Classroom experience and strong classroom management preferred
  • Experience in working with high needs students a plus
  • Must pass a criminal background check and TB test clearance
  • High school graduate or equivalent, college degree preferred
  • Skills & Requirements

  • Strong literacy / math background from school or experience
  • Paid or volunteer experience working with children in any educational or child care setting, experience with middle school-aged students preferred
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Strong collaboration skills

    Manager : Special Education Administrator

    Supervisor : Special Education Administrator / Dean of Students (MS / ES)

    Direct Reports : Special Education Administrator / Dean of Students (MS / ES)

    Time Commitment

    This position is full-time and follows a 10 month work year with student-free days for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues. Most staff will report early in August (exact calendar TBD).
