Job Overview
Under the direction of the Design Engineering Manager, the Senior Controls Engineer will be responsible for both new product development and the redesign of legacy equipment to address parts obsolescence. The primary focus will be on designing, developing, testing, validating, and troubleshooting industrial control panels incorporating VFD’s, PLC’s, and internally developed hardware and software.
A Day In The Life
Every day at Hubbell is different and you’ll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you’ll make a difference by :
- Design products that meet engineering standards, applicable codes, customer specifications, and within cost and schedule constraints.
- Ensure conformance with NEMA, UL, and internal company standards for quality and manufacturability.
- Create and maintain 3D / 2D models, design layouts, and production drawings using CAD tools.
- Evaluate and redesign legacy equipment to address component obsolescence.
- Serve as a technical resource for field support, resolving product-related questions and issues.
- Generate reports related to product design, quality, and testing.
- Set up and perform electrical and mechanical tests to verify product performance, requiring proficiency with electrical test equipment and laboratory procedures.
What will help you thrive in this role?
Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in switchgear and control equipment.Proficient in PLC programming; experience with ABB PLCs is preferred.Skilled in 2D / 3D CAD design tools; experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD is a plus.Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) is desired.Strong knowledge of electronic and mechanical components.Strong organizational skills in documenting design, testing, and validation processes.Effective communication skills for interacting with vendors, customers, and internal teams.Familiarity with UL508A and / or UL218 is a plus.BS / MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering degree.
