Instructor, AC and Refrigeration HVAC (CE) - Adjunct

Overview

Provide the expertise and knowledge that support the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role of the Instructional Faculty encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development and institutional and community service. The incumbent may teach a maximum load of contact hours each semester in area(s) of competency and participate as a part-time instructor in the activities of the department, division, and college (See Faculty Workload Guidelines).

Responsibilities

• Teaching : Demonstrate skill and / or knowledge in teaching discipline; review and utilize innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods; develop and use a syllabus for each course or laboratory and submit to the department chair; plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to meet course objectives and accommodate diverse learners; evaluate students and provide timely progress information; keep accurate student records and submit required reports and forms; review and recommend textbooks and materials; teach courses at various times, locations, and modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online, or combinations); use equipment and facilities responsibly and assist with routine maintenance of instructional laboratories; demonstrate competence and interest in using technology in the classroom and explore new methodologies; submit grades, attendance rosters, and other required items on time.
• Academic Advising : Maintain professional relationships with students and provide access to advising via office hours and electronic communication; provide guidance on instructional or program-specific issues; make presentations on academic fields, transfer opportunities, work opportunities, scholarships, etc.; work with the Chair / Director on appropriate advising activities as needed.
• Professional Development : Establish annual objectives for professional growth with department chair; keep pace with developments in the discipline; learn technologies that support student learning; participate in department-required annual evaluation processes.
• Institutional and Community Service : Part-time faculty are encouraged to participate in department, college, or district committees and governance; adhere to policies and procedures of HCCS; participate in activities required to maintain accreditation standards.

Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or higher preferred; Industry certifications preferred; Copy of transcript conferring required degree and certification(s) must accompany application.

Experience

3 years' work experience in the field required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at multiple sites around the city; knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; good organizational and planning skills; sensitivity to students with different academic and socio-economic backgrounds and students with disabilities; ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment; self-discipline and ability to effectively manage others.

Other

Bilingual language skills preferred; knowledge of HVAC systems and components and the ability to troubleshoot and repair each.
