Overview

The Real Estate and Land Use Attorney serves the firm's clients by preparing documents and providing legal advice with respect to real property purchases and sales, commercial leases, real estate development, financing, ownership structure, and land use. The Attorney originates business, leads client relationships, participates in the management of the firm, and supervises and develops newer attorneys.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary of $144,000 with incentive pay up to $420,000. Total cash compensation could exceed $560,000, depending on origination and collections.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the clients' problems and goals, whether they are legal, financial, or operational.
  • Proactively and decisively take action to help clients make better decisions, resolve issues, and achieve their goals.
  • Provide innovative, practical, and comprehensive solutions to the clients' problems.
  • Develop and maintain strong bonds with the firm's clients.
  • Prepare documents, memos, and messages that meet the firm's high standards of excellence and that do not require corrections or modifications by other attorneys.
  • Manage the client matters for which the Attorney is responsible—e.g., obtain signed engagement letters, update conflicts information, enter client data in the practice management app, send accurate and timely billing statements, and collect fees.
  • Communicate effectively, efficiently, and promptly with clients, attorneys, and others to ensure the right people have the right information at the right time.
  • Achieve collections on originated matters to cover at least 75% of the Attorney's base salary under the firm's allocation formula.
  • Achieve collections on at least 330 billed hours per quarter.
  • Supervise and develop newer attorneys (if applicable).
  • Comply with the firm's policies and procedures.
  • Treat everyone with dignity and respect.
  • Provide pro bono services or volunteer in other capacities.
  • Take the initiative to improve the firm's operations, branding, and finances.
  • Represent the firm and its people well and uphold the firm's brand and reputation—i.e., be professional.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Must be willing to work in the firm's office in either Vancouver or Bellevue. Vancouver is preferred.
  • Must have substantial experience in representing clients in commercial real estate transactions and projects, including, without limitation, real estate development, common interest ownership communities, purchases and sales of commercial properties, commercial property leases, easements, and covenants, conditions, and restrictions ("CC&Rs").
  • Experience in land use matters is preferred.
  • A portable book of business is strongly preferred.
  • Substantial experience in managing client relationships and ample experience leading staff and newer attorneys.
  • Bachelor's degree and doctorate in jurisprudence.
  • Active license to practice law in Washington is required.
  • Active license to practice law in Oregon is preferred.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.

  • Perseverance in the face of difficulty and uncertainty.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable real estate and / or land use law.
