About This Position
The College of Veterinary Medicine is looking for someone to join our Information Technology department.
Position Responsibilities
- Provide computer support to end-users.
- Maintain classroom technology environment.
- Contribute to the proper installation, maintenance and disposal of desktop computers and printers.
- Install, configure and upgrade operating systems and software using standard business and administrative packages; modify specific applications for use in operational departments.
- Install, assemble and configure computers, laptops, network connected devices including tablets and cell phones, monitors, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers and scanners; pull cables and rewire cables as required for new installations and office reconfiguration.
- Troubleshoot problems with computer systems, including hardware and software, e-mail, network and peripheral equipment; perform repairs as needed.
- Act as a technical resource to assist users in resolving problems with equipment and data; collaborate with a centralized help desk to facilitate information exchange.
- Build working knowledge through documentation and vendor resources to support connections and configuration of network and video / display hardware and software settings for medical / diagnostic / research / radiographic equipment as needed to support teaching, research and public service functions of CVM and the veterinary teaching hospital.
- Assist CVM staff / faculty / students in using standard business and administrative software (word processing, spreadsheets, databases); provide instruction or written documentation as required.
- Assist with training support technicians and student IT workers on general procedures for configuration, use and maintenance of workstations and other technologies in the CVM environment.
- Work with minimal supervision on short and long-term projects for purchasing and distributing technology needs within the veterinary teaching hospital.
- Engage in a program of continuous professional development; conduct activities in line with CVM vision and positive external relations; maintain and develop computer-related skills.
- Read journals, books and whitepapers to understand new and existing technologies; expand knowledge of computer networks and their workplace applications; apply new skills to CVM areas (technology transfer).
Required Qualifications
High School / GED (degree conferred on or before start date)Computer Specialist I — Bachelor's degree and one year of related experience, or High school and six years of related experience with requirement to earn a bachelor's degree within six years of hire. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Computer Specialist II — Bachelor's degree and three years of related experience or High school and eight years related experience with demonstrated progress toward bachelor's degree. Working knowledge of setting up and maintaining computer systems and servers including configuration. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Computer Specialist III — Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience or High school and ten years related experience with demonstrated progress toward bachelor's degree. Detailed knowledge of setting up and maintaining computer systems and servers including configuration. Demonstrated leadership experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Senior Computer Specialist I — Bachelor's degree and seven years of related experience; demonstrated leadership skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Senior Computer Specialist II — Bachelor's degree plus 10 years related experience or master's degree and 8 years related experience; demonstrated leadership skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
