Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Tele position requiring NC or compact RN licensure and strong Med / Tele skills.

Responsibilities

Work in a 36-bed Med / Surg Telemetry unit within a large Level I Trauma teaching hospital

Patient population includes urological, renal, hepatic, GI, and post-transplant cases, as well as surgical trauma

Patient ratios are typically 1 : 4-6, occasionally up to 1 : 7-8 during surge staffing

12-hour night shifts starting at 7pm, every other weekend required

No on-call requirements for travelers

Required to work 75% of holidays

Floating required within assigned region to multiple affiliated hospital sites as needed and within scope of practice

Nurses are responsible for reading and responding to their own telemetry monitors

Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell, and Phillips monitors

Responsibilities include managing patients with complex medical, surgical, and transplant needs

Support staff includes CNAs, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV / VAT team, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists

No telemetry monitoring technician; RNs are responsible for monitoring and responding to alarms

Orientation includes facility NEO and 2 days of departmental training

Navy scrubs are required

Up to 6 days of requested time off (excluding holidays); any missed contracted hours must be made up at end of assignment

Requirements

Active NC or compact RN license

Minimum 2 years of recent Med / Tele RN experience

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications

Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and perform general Med / Tele procedures including trach care, PIV starts, NGT placement, and chest tube management

Experience with medication drips such as cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids

Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility

Epic charting experience preferred

Not preferred but will consider first-time travelers
