Hydraulic Excavator Operator
This position performs tasks required for the operation of hydraulic excavation equipment for the construction / upgrade of underground utilities, including communications conduit, gas, water, sewer, electric, and more. Essential functions and responsibilities include :
- Load and unload equipment in a manner that is secure and damage-free
- Transport associated tools, materials, and / or equipment safely
- Complete a daily inspection of equipment prior to commencing work
- In conjunction with the crew, operate the equipment to assist in placing underground utilities
- Operate equipment in accordance with company and industry standards
- Responsible for locating existing underground utilities and verifying them according to blueprints
- Identify utilities in the construction area and bore path
- Connect / stub-up conduit and wire, as required
- Dig pits, trenches, or potholes as required, including windows when crossing utilities
- Restore and / or landscape disturbed areas of the jobsite
- Accurately complete all required company documentation for each assignment (i.e., timesheet, vehicle log, expense report)
- Adhere to all established company safety policies and perform work in a safe manner
- Perform other duties as assigned to help the team complete a project

Ability to read and interpret engineering / construction prints, plans, and specificationsKnowledge of utility depths and placementsPossess general knowledge of construction practicesAbility to work in various environments / settings with moderate to loud noise levelsAbility to work in trenches, excavations, and manholesMust have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasksAbility to work efficiently, independently, and collaboratively within a team environmentExcellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skillsAbility to move materials / equipment weighing up to 80 poundsAbility to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentAble to work 5-7 days a week, 10+ hours a day when necessaryWilling to work outside in varying weather conditionsPreferred education and experience :
One year of experience operating a directional bore drillPrevious rock boring experienceOne year of Hydraulic Excavators, Skid Loader, and Dozer experienceClass A CDLAdditional eligibility qualifications :
Must be willing and able to travel out of town with occasional overnight stays to assigned projectsMust be able to lift at least 50 pounds on an occasional basisPass pre-employment drug test and criminal background screenComplete and pass a DOT PhysicalPhysical demands :
This position typically requires balancing, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, grasping, reaching, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing, hearing, and talking.
Working conditions :
The employee will be exposed to varying weather conditions as they will be driving in all types of conditions.
Travel :
This position may require travel, which could include traveling to projects in different cities and overnight stays.
