Job Title : Post Doctoral Scholar in Economics-Labor, STEM Education, and Household Finance Department : Arts and Sciences | Economics
The Department of Economics, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks three Post Doctoral Scholars to join our team. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. With 38 departments, 20+ world-class research centers, and more than 2,000 faculty and staff members, students have the unique opportunity to study with the best artists, scholars, and scientists in their field.
The Post Doctoral Scholar will study the economics of science, innovation, and education, including student debt and outcomes, interdisciplinarity, the STEM workforce and careers, and the effects of investments in research on local economies. The postdoc will support and conduct detailed complex scientific studies, functioning as a subject expert on one or more phases of the project(s). They will prepare and / or present seminars, talks or lectures for dissemination of knowledge, particularly the results of research undertaken. The postdoc will assist in the management of one or more phases of the research effort. They will assist in the selection of key research personnel, including undergraduate and graduate students, to work on project(s) undertaken; work with and coordinate collaborating research staff, providing input on methods and procedures necessary to achieve desired goals. The postdoc advises undergraduate and graduate students in the analysis and interpretation of research data. They are responsible for the extraction, analysis and presentation of research data, and coordinate the analysis of research findings, preparing detailed summaries for submission to the sponsoring agencies. The postdoc is responsible for the development of research designs and procedures for data analysis on the project(s). They write, edit and / or approve progress reports, technical reports and journal articles; edit grant proposals and draft IRB documents for submission, and assist in the establishment of working relationships with potential sponsors and in the submission of detailed research proposals to governmental and private agencies.
Initial appointments will begin between Autumn Semester 2025 and Autumn Semester 2026. Each appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and available funding. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning mid-November.
Required Qualifications :
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in economics, public policy and management, sociology, finance, public health, or computer / library / information sciences by the start of employment. They should have experience in social science research and demonstrate expertise or strong interest in one or more of the following areas : the economics of science and innovation, education, consumer or household finance, urban and regional economics, labor economics, or spatial econometrics.
Desired Qualifications : The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills and experience working with complex data sets, along with evidence of high-quality research in the fields listed above. A demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary research environment is also preferred.
