The Technician, HIM is responsible for checking healthcare records for format and completeness. They maintain healthcare records systematically, analyze for deficiencies, and compile data for studies and reports.
Essential Functions
- Review patient health records for deficiencies and report to Clinical Care Managers.
- Retrieve and forward health records between CHI locations and external facilities as requested.
- Report healthcare record deficiencies to Manager, Performance Improvement & Education, and maintain logs.
- Follow policies for retention and shredding of health records according to regulations.
- Respond promptly to legal requests for patient health records.
- Provide required copies of patient health records to the Finance Department upon request.
- Communicate effectively with external Health Information Management departments regarding patient records.
- Participate in the organizational QA / PI program related to patient health records.

Ensure compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules.Maintain patient confidentiality as required by law.Provide status reports to Senior Management.Coordinate multiple projects and meet deadlines.Work independently, stay organized, detail-oriented, and maintain a safe environment.Assist with coverage at the Reception desk when needed.Orient new employees to the responsibilities of the Health Information Technician.Maintain required licenses, certifications, and skills.Comply with all relevant policies and laws.Support other duties within the healthcare team.Perform additional duties as assigned.Supervisory Responsibility
May serve as an interim department leader as needed.Physical Requirements
