Job Description
Directs, plans, leads and evaluates the staff and activities for system-wide coding operations to ensure accurate and timely coding of inpatient and outpatient records according to Health System standards, policies and procedures. Directly manages employees involved in coding. Coordinates and evaluates Health System's coding staffing programs and initiatives.
Job Responsibility
- Leads a Coding group by communicating with and developing staff members, and building consensus for programs and goals that support a business, function or geographic area.
- Develops and articulates a short-term strategic vision for areas of responsibility.
- Directs the Electronic Medical Records function to include creating, receiving, retrieving, retaining, storing, and disposing of records and other health information of all media types and in compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Oversees logs, indexes, and databases to provide accurate status and retrieval information, including the development of scanning and indexing procedures.
- Monitors information storage and establishing security access (passwords, etc.) to ensure a "shared patient record" across practices.
- Adheres to system records retention schedules and collaborates with Risk Management and Legal Affairs departments for appropriate medical record destruction; manages scanning and abstracting of Ambulatory Electronic Medical Records functions.
- Collaborates with the teams and go-lives and other implementations requiring scanning and abstracting; collaborates with leadership in development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures.
- Ensures operating compliance with government and agency regulations.
- Recommends, implements, and adheres to approved operating goals, objectives and budget.
- Determines the scope of services of Health Information Management; selects, develops, manages, and evaluates direct reports;, oversees the development, management and evaluation of indirect reports.
- Builds and maintains productive intra-departmental work relationships to optimize operations.

Job Qualification
