WSDOT is currently seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Highway Maintenance Worker 1. In this role, you will perform semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and janitorial duties to ensure rest areas and related facilities are clean, safe, and welcoming for the traveling public. You will also assist motorists and help maintain WSDOT's commitment to safety, reliability, and service. This position plays a vital role in supporting WSDOT's mission by keeping facilities in excellent condition and promoting a positive travel experience for all who use Washington's transportation system.
This position may require working weekends and holidays and may involve responding to emergency calls outside of scheduled hours. Employees must be prepared for emergency situations in any weather, 24 / 7, and may work long hours, including nights and rotational shifts. Standby and call-back may be needed occasionally.

This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs. This position is not eligible for remote work. Work is performed primarily outdoors and inside rest area facilities in all weather conditions. Duties involve working at various heights and ground levels, sometimes in confined spaces or on uneven terrain. Employees may be exposed to chemicals, cleaning agents, fuels, sanitary waste, and other hazardous materials. The role requires the ability to manipulate and transport up to 50 pounds, as well as use electronic equipment, small engines, power tools, and hand tools.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
