Job Summary / Objective :
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department (ED) provides high-quality, direct patient care in a dynamic and fast-paced Emergency Room setting. This role is responsible for planning, delivering, and managing patient care using the nursing process and adhering to the standards of nursing practice. The RN assesses and prioritizes patients needs, initiates appropriate interventions, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to promote optimal patient outcomes. This role requires a current RN license and registration.
Essential Functions / Duties / Responsibilities :
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients presenting to the ED to identify immediate needs and appropriate care actions.
- Prioritize and administer urgent / emergency interventions based on patient assessments.
- Collaborate with medical providers and the ED team to develop individualized care plans.
- Implement and document all aspects of nursing care following ED protocols and guidelines.
- Provide education and updates to patients and families on care plans, procedures, and discharge instructions.
- Assist in resuscitation efforts, including advanced airway management and medication administration.
- Maintain and operate equipment as required, ensuring safety standards are met.
- Prepare, monitor, and manage patients in high-stress situations, including trauma and critical care scenarios.
- Accurately document all patient care, treatments, and progress notes in electronic medical records.
- Engage in quality improvement activities and participate in training as required to remain current with best practices in emergency nursing.

Strong clinical skills and knowledge of emergency and critical care.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and team members.Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.Organizational and multitasking skills to manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment.Proficiency with computers and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.Education, Certificates, and License :
Education :
Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.Certificates / License :
Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Missouri or the ability to obtain.Certifications :
Basic Life Support (BLS), active or within 30 days of hireAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), active or within 6 months of hirePediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), active or within 6 months of hireTrauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 1 year of hireExperience :
1-2 years of experience in emergency nursing preferred.Familiarity with emergency medical and trauma protocols is an advantage.Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems preferred.Physical Requirements :
Lifting : Regularly lift / move patients or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.Mobility : Frequent walking, standing, and moving for extended periods.Posture : Bending, twisting, and reaching as needed during patient care.Dexterity : Fine motor skills for tasks such as administering injections, changing dressings, or operating medical equipment.EEOC Statement :
