Description :

Reports to the Medical / Surgical Care Lead and / or the on-duty Nursing Supervisor.

The RN administers nursing care to patients efficiently, safely, and courteously using proper nursing procedures.

SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES :

Conducts individualized patient assessments, prioritizing data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition or needs.

Notifies physicians of abnormal findings.

Conducts ongoing assessments as determined by the patient’s condition and prioritizes care accordingly.

Develops individualized plans of care in collaboration with other healthcare team members.

Performs treatments as ordered by physicians accurately and timely.

Keeps work areas and assigned rooms clean.

Provides fresh water to patients frequently and restocks storage areas as needed.

Delivers individualized patient / family education.

Documents assessment findings, responses to interventions, and progress towards problem resolution.

Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to resuscitation protocols.

Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patients and staff.

Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner, preserving patient and family rights.

Reports patient conditions to appropriate personnel during each shift.

Adheres to safety and infection control standards in patient care delivery.

Attends departmental and hospital meetings and educational in-services.

Assists nursing staff in other departments as requested and qualified.

Maintains CPR and ACLS status.

Coordinates smooth patient transfers for procedures or diagnostic tests.

Assumes professional responsibility for assuring high standards of patient care.

Communicates questions about medical or nursing care as needed.

Follows procedures for medication administration and narcotics control, documenting them in a timely manner.

Ensures that consents are obtained and that records are signed and complete.

Supervises less experienced staff in patient care delivery and acts as a resource person.

Maintains knowledge of basic arrhythmia interpretation.

Cares for outpatients requiring blood transfusions according to policy.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

Adheres to dress code with a neat and professional appearance.

Completes annual education requirements.

Maintains regulatory requirements.

Wears identification while on duty.

Participates actively in annual evaluations.

Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completing work in designated time.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Willingness to work beyond normal hours and in temporary positions if necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Sits, stands, bends, lifts, walks, and moves intermittently during working hours.

Able to lift 20 lbs.
