Legislative Assistant to Representative Joshua Penner, House Republican Caucus

The Washington State House of Representatives is seeking a Legislative Assistant to support Representative Joshua Penner in fulfilling his duties. This position is full-time and exempt, offering a competitive salary range of $59,544.00 - $103,176.00 annually. The role is based in Olympia, Washington, with options to work in the district office during the interim.

This position is represented by the Legislative Professionals Association. The House of Representatives comprises half of the Washington State Legislature, employing 250 full-time staff and 100 temporary session staff. The Legislature meets annually in Olympia, with regular sessions from January to April in odd-numbered years and January to March in even-numbered years. Special sessions occur as needed.

The Washington State House Republican Caucus consists of 39 Republican members, providing administrative, policy, and communications support to its members. Legislative Assistants manage office operations, constituent communications, and support the Representative's legislative activities. This position requires an in-person presence during sessions and the ability to work more than 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Interim schedules offer more flexibility.

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications : two years of office management and administrative support experience, demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities under time constraints, strong writing, editing, and oral communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment. Additional desirable qualifications include knowledge of the legislative process and a bachelor's degree in business, political science, public administration, or related field.
