Academic Coach – Empower Adolescents & Young Adults

Shape futures. Build confidence. Create opportunity.

Openwork is partnering with a mission-driven organization dedicated to helping youth in and transitioning out of foster care succeed academically and personally. We’re seeking passionate individuals who are ready to go beyond tutoring—those who want to mentor, inspire, and truly change lives.

About the Role

Our Academic Coaching Program supports adolescents and young adults (ages 14–25) with customized academic guidance and essential life skills. Academic Coaches strengthen students’ study habits, time management, and organization—equipping them with tools for lifelong success.

  • Assist with homework, test prep, and executive functioning strategies.
  • Lead engaging one-on-one and small-group sessions, in person or virtually.
  • Travel to assigned program sites across Houston and surrounding counties.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and student progress.
  • Complete required assessments and documentation.
  • Participate in training, team meetings, and program events.

Schedule : Monday–Thursday, sessions begin at 4 : 00 PM or 5 : 00 PM. Availability after 4 : 00 PM is required.

What We’re Looking For :

We’re searching for caring, dependable professionals who can connect with youth and help them thrive :

  • Experience mentoring or tutoring adolescents and young adults (ages 14–25).
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; candidates with college coursework considered.
  • Strong proficiency in math, science, and English.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance.
  • Computer access and Microsoft Teams proficiency.
  • Patience, empathy, and adaptability to meet diverse student needs.
  • Willingness to travel across a wide service area.
  • Compensation & Benefits :

  • Pay : $20 / hour.
  • Training : Comprehensive onboarding and coaching development.
  • Support : Ongoing team collaboration and professional development.
  • Proprietary agreement required during onboarding.
  • Why This Role Matters

This is more than a job—it’s a calling. As an Academic Coach, you’ll be a mentor, a motivator, and a steady presence for youth navigating life’s toughest challenges. Your guidance will not only help them succeed in school but also believe in their own potential.

If you’re passionate about education and ready to make a meaningful impact, this is your chance to help transform the future—for students who need it most.
