Duties
Help
- Assist in collaboration with other providers in administering emergency cardiac care for life threatening heart conditions such as cardiac arrest.
- Provide consultations for Emergency Department, Inpatient, and Intensive Care Unit.
- Provide daily ongoing notes concerning progress of care and discharge planning concerning cardiology recommendations in conjunction with hospitalist.
- Provide documentation and if needed, collaborative communication with accepting cardiologist during transfer of patient to a higher level of care, whether in the ED or Inpatient, with documentation in the Electronic Health Record to support.
- Conduct electrocardiogram (EKG), phonocardiogram, echocardiogram, or other cardiovascular tests to record patients' cardiac activity, using specialized electronic test equipment, recording devices, or laboratory instruments including conducting exercise electrocardiogram tests to monitor cardiovascular activity under stress by using VA approved modalities of documentation.
- Design and explain cardiology treatment plans based on patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.
- Provides daily Inpatient notes on cardiology patients and consultation notes for Emergency room patients on day of occurrence.
- Diagnose medical conditions of patients using records, reports, test results, or examination information.
- Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients for both inpatient and outpatient encounters.
- Monitor patients' conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary during hospitalization and upon discharge or transfer if indicated.
- Obtain and record patient information, including patient identification, medical history, and examination results.
- Order medical tests, such as cardiac stress tests, echocardiograms, electrocardiograms, Holter monitors, and consultations through VA or Care in Community for Cardiac Catheterization if warranted.
- Prescribe cardiovascular medication to treat or prevent cardiovascular problems.
- Recommend cardiac surgical procedures with appropriate consultations with collaboration to referring provider in VA or Care in the Community.
- Prescribe heart medication to treat or prevent heart problems.
- Recommend surgeons or surgical procedures.
- Provide patient consultation within the ICU and the ED for critical patients.
- Provide education and supervision for medical students and Family Practice Residents in Cardiology.
- Talk to other physicians about patients to create a treatment plan.

Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary
