This position is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of all Detroit Service Center equipment and systems, as required to provide an optimum work environment for all facility personnel, data processing, and print center devices, critical to servicing BCBSM customers. Also responsible for emergency service response to site emergencies, maintenance of all assigned spaces and equipment, and oversight of contractor activity for protection of the BCBSM work environments for all buildings within the region.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain the Detroit Service Center facility, physical plant systems and equipment. Proficiency in HVAC systems and equipment, high-pressure steam and components, and operation of emergency and standby power generation systems.
- Provide after-hours facility system expertise to assure continuity of environmental and power services to the Detroit Data Processing Center and Print Center. Assume leadership in the absence of direct supervision.
- Adhere to post-relief requirements and city regulations; secure all systems as needed.
- Be available to work any shift, as this is a 24 / 7 facility.
- Lead facility emergencies in coordination with BCBSM Security.
- Install, operate and maintain the Building Automation System (BAS); assist in development, installation and programming as directed.
- Provide installation, maintenance and diagnostic services on refrigeration, HVAC, boilers, controls, and related equipment.
- Diagnose and service electrical control systems to support HVACR and facility operations.
- Maintain daily operation and maintenance records for facility systems.
- Perform standard operational and maintenance procedures; tour facility each shift to inspect systems and equipment.
- Make minor repairs and adjustments; log discrepancies and report unresolved issues to leadership.
- Monitor activities that may impact facility environment or occupant safety; stop adverse activities and notify leadership to resolve issues. Comply with federal, state and local regulations.
- Keep assigned equipment and spaces in optimum condition; inform leadership of maintenance constraints due to conflicts.
- Meet minimum performance standards and maintain system proficiency after training; assist with safe lockout of hazardous energy sources as required.
- Track daily work and Preventative Maintenance in the Angus Work Order system.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school graduate or GED equivalent.Completion of BCBSM Service Center Systems and Jefferson Facility Systems Qualification Guidelines within specified time frames.Minimum one (1) year DDC / BAS operation and maintenance experience and at least two (2) years operational experience in a comparable facility.City of Detroit First Class Refrigeration Operators License, EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certificate and Valid Michigan Driver's License.Boiler Operations and Refrigeration / Electrical / Mechanical service licensing preferred.Ability to work any shift, weekends and holidays.Familiar with hand tools and safety standards; good communication with customers, staff and employees.Ability to lift up to 80 pounds.Other related skills and / or abilities may be required.Employment type
