SUMMARY :
Under the direction of the President and CEO, assists with and assumes many of the functions of the President and CEO. This includes planning and overseeing all long-term and daily operations of the association, including the overall administration, fiscal oversight, supervision of staff and their activities and the direction of the Information Technology (IT) Project. This also includes all intergovernmental, marketing, membership, communications and media services for the New Jersey Association of Mental Health and Addiction Agencies and any and all entities thereof, including the New Jersey Mental Health Institute, as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Associate Executive Director assists with these core duties and responsibilities, and will gradually take on a greater leadership role in several areas :
Leadership / Vision : Provides leadership to ensure that the vision and mission of NJAMHAA meets present and future needs of the members through advocacy, visibility and professional development that will facilitate their economic viability to ensure their ongoing capacity to deliver quality, cost-effective healthcare and social services and supports to those they serve.
Collaboration / Communication : Facilitates communication and collaborative problem-solving among staff; builds and maintains transparent and collaborative relationships both internally and externally; key collaboration is with the Office of the Governor, NJ Department of Human Services, NJ Department of Children and Families, NJ Department of Health, NJ Department of Banking and Insurance, NJ Department of Community Affairs, NJ Department of Law and Public Safety, NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development, as well as NJAMHAA Members, the media and the New Jersey State Legislature, New Jersey Congressional Delegation, other national, state and local legislators, policy makers, stakeholders and related industries.
- Assists the President and CEO and the Vice President of Public Affairs and Member Services in monitoring and responding to a high volume of email and in overseeing the planning, coordination and provision of direct support of all Board functions and meetings; assists with the facilitation of Board committee functions and meetings, including development of agendas and follow-up on action items.
- Assists the President and CEO in providing input to Board on strategic planning for advocacy, association, membership services and industry trends.
- Assists the President and CEO in collaborating with the Board via Governance and Finance and Compliance Committees to develop sources of non-dues revenue, including, but not limited to, royalties for insurance products, telecommunications services and furniture, and technical assistance workshops.
- Assists the President and CEO with the oversight of all activities performed by the Vice President of Information Technology, Human Resources and Administrative Services.
- Assists the President and CEO with the oversight of organizational operations in all areas including staff supervision, planning, budgeting and measurement of results.
- As assigned, along with the President and CEO and the Senior Health Policy Analyst, advocates on behalf of membership before state and federal legislators, policy makers and regulators and represents membership through participation on state advisory boards, as well as statewide and national organizations, and other panels to establish a strong public presence and develop close relations with "key persons".
- Assists the President and CEO, Senior Health Policy Analyst, and the Vice President of Public Affairs and Member Service with the oversight of research and technical review of state and federal legislation impacting the behavioral healthcare field, and plans, develops and coordinates educational and informational programs for state legislators and U.S. Congressional members, as well as key policy makers and stakeholders.
- Assists the President and CEO and other senior staff with the oversight, development and creation of a comprehensive range of membership services to all regular and council members, including, but not limited to, communications; publications; legislative alerts; conferences, training, other educational activities; sale and marketing of NJAMHAA products.
- Assists the President and CEO and other senior staff with the planning and oversight of all membership expansion strategies, including the ongoing strengthening of services to maintain current membership.
- Researches and directs development of program content for conferences, workshops and other media and special events.
- Assists the President and CEO with the oversight of all media relations and social media activities performed by the Vice President of Public Affairs and Member Services and the Communications Specialist. Activities conducted include increasing visibility, obtaining coverage in the press and on radio and television and in placing articles in local, state, national and ethnic publications, and social media; establishing and maintaining relationships with local, state, national and multicultural / bilingual media.
- Along with the President and CEO and other Senior Staff, serves as corporate spokesperson and liaison to local, state and national markets, trade and industry associations, behavioral health stakeholders, government bodies, regulatory agencies, state and federal legislators, community groups and consumers.
- Assists the President and CEO and the Vice President of Public Affairs and Member Services with the approval of conceptualization, content, writing, editing, design and production of all association and New Jersey Mental Health Institute publications, advertisements and promotional materials.
SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS :
