SALARY : $2500 Per Semester

POSITION SUMMARY :
The Circle of Friends (COF) is an internationally renowned program that focuses on reducing social isolation among seniors. Started in Europe, this model is the first of its kind to be implemented in the United States via the St. Louis Housing Authority.
Senior public housing residents meet in groups (via zoom or in-person, when possible) to discuss topics such as health, society, and other items of interest. In addition, the COF engages in activities such as luncheons and public outings. Currently there are nine (9) COF groups. These groups meet on a weekly basis.
As a member of the Resident Initiatives Department, the COF Intern will support staff with program implementation and managing the Seniors' activity schedule.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Required knowledge, skills and abilities for this position would normally be gained through enrollment in a degree program in social work, community building, health and human services, gerontology or a related field, or the equivalent of a minimum of two (2) years of experience in housing, senior services, or other relevant experience. Will consider a combination of appropriate education and experience.
- Ability to set up transportation and social outing program / schedule under the guidance of the Elderly and Disabled Coordinator. (Coordinator)
- Skill in conducting pre and post surveys.
- Ability to assist Coordinator with completing quarterly and end of year reporting to sponsor (fund source).
- Ability to support Coordinator with launching additional COF groups at other St. Louis Housing Authority sites.
- Ability to collaborate with property management, residents, and community organizations to support the Circle of Friends, collaborate with Circle of Friends participants to identify activities and priorities, assist in coordinating logistics for COF meetings, outings and activities.
- Skill in providing administrative support, such as maintaining project management and accountability.
- Skill in collaborating with residents, property management, and external stakeholders to promote community engagement and social cohesion through COF.
- Ability to participate in meetings, workshops, and training sessions to enhance skills in project management, community organizing and leadership development.
- Skill in maintaining accurate records of COF activities, membership rosters, meeting minutes, and correspondence, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and confidentiality standards.
- Skill in maintaining accurate activity records, including date, time, participants, activities, etc.
- Experience working with racially diverse populations and demonstrated cultural competency skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing.
- Strong interest in community development, social justice and resident engagement.
- Adherence to confidentiality laws.
- Ability to comply with policies, rules, and procedures of the organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills.
- Must have and maintain a current driver's license and be insurable under the Authority's automobile insurance.
