Job Description

People Operations (HR) Intern

Who we are : We’re the West Michigan Whitecaps, Class High A Minor League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. Our mission is to provide affordable family entertainment to the West Michigan community. We pride ourselves on our stellar customer service and our dedication to providing friendly faces, open minds, and our time and energy to our fans. We’ve been here for more than 30 years and are ready to be here for at least 30 more.

Who are you : You’re a college or University Junior or Senior, within 3 semesters of graduating. You need an internship for academic credit, and you’re pursuing a degree in Business, Human Resources, or something comparable. You work hard, play nice, are people-oriented, and appreciate a good joke.

Why you want to work here : The Whitecaps internship program is designed to provide future success with hands-on career development training and job shadow program for those navigating the selection of appropriate careers. We provide internship positions that are meaningful and compatible with education and aspirations. We work very hard, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously; we realize how important things like office darts and puppy visits and staff happy hours are. Plus, you also get free shared housing, a monthly stipend, free baseball tickets & food (your friends will love you!), free health club membership, and opportunities to get discounted or free tickets to various shows and events in West Michigan. We’re also great people to work with.

What you’ll do : You’ll be mentored closely by our team and get your hands on every aspect of the hiring process—from job fairs and postings to phone screenings, onboarding, and employee orientation. When baseball season starts, you’ll learn more about scheduling, maintaining employee files, and working on projects to make game days run smoothly. You’ll also get experience in employee relations and engagement. On game days, you’ll be checking in employees, making sure they’re clocking in, and lending a hand around the ballpark wherever it’s needed.

What you need : You need solid availability no later than March 2nd through mid-September (or your return to school). You must have availability to work 40 hours a week, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Non-event days are generally M-F 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Game or event days, the day generally begins a bit later and ends after the game or event. A valid driver’s license and a positive attitude are must-haves!

Let’s do this : If you're ready to jump in, we want to hear from you! Send us your resume and a cover letter telling us why you'd be a perfect fit. We can’t wait to meet you!
