Temporary - Part-Time Position (1500 hours per fiscal year, PERS eligible)
Under general supervision, performs a variety of manual or semi-skilled duties related to construction, maintenance and repair of City facilities; operates light power equipment; performs related work as required.
General Functions
- Perform wide variety of semi-skilled construction and maintenance work, including painting, demolition.
- Operate hand and portable power tools.
- Operate motor-driven equipment and trucks on streets, highways and over terrain.
- Use chemicals and / or other supplies including selecting lumber and proper supplies for the task at hand.
- Maintain simple records.
- Use computer for work reporting and information access.
- Cleans, maintains and stores equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, verbal and written directions.
Qualifications
Knowledge of

Graduation from the 12th grade or equivalent.
Experience
One-year experience performing general maintenance, including six months manual labor experience involving use of hand tools and portable power tools.
License, Certificate or Other Requirements
Valid Class "C" California driver's license at the time of application.
Special Requirements
Complete all necessary department safety training, as required.Safety regulations prohibit wearing contact lenses when working with certain chemicals. Incumbents in positions requiring use of a respirator are prohibited from wearing beards or other facial hair that prevents a proper respirator fit.Incumbents will be required to work on roofs. They must pass a fall protection class within 3 months of employment and be fitted to safety harness equipment required for the task.Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Indoor work to perform record keeping and computer tasks; outdoor work in all types of weather including extreme heat and humidity, cold and rain; work in and around heavy traffic conditions and very loud noise of construction equipment; continuous exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, and vibration from equipment and tools; occasional exposure to hazardous materials and substances including chemicals, blood-borne pathogens, and animal bites; positions may require working at heights above the ground, work below ground, and / or in confined spaces.
Incumbents must be able to exert physical strength for prolonged periods of time. The majority of tasks involve a combination of simultaneous physical operations such as lifting and carrying tools and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs or pushing / pulling up to 25 lbs.
