Overview
The Kings County Library is seeking a creative, enthusiastic Librarian I / II with a passion for community outreach. This full-time position serves at the Hanford Library and other branches throughout Kings County, including Lemoore, Corcoran, Avenal, Kettleman City, and Stratford. Candidates must be flexible to work days, evenings, and weekends. One full-time Librarian I / II position is currently available; future vacancies may be filled from an eligible list with a six-month expected life for the list.

Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives general supervision (Librarian I) or direction (Librarian II) from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises direct supervision over technical and administrative staff.
Class Characteristics
Librarian I : This entry-level classification provides assistance and service to patrons while learning the library collection, policies, procedures, and operations. With experience, assignments become more varied and independent. Positions at this level perform many duties of the Librarian II but with less independent discretion.
Librarian II : Fully qualified journey-level classification; performs the full range of duties independently and with initiative, while following operating procedures and policies. Positions at this level require minimal instruction in new or unusual situations.
Positions in the Librarian I-II class series are flexibly staffed; II-level positions are typically filled by advancement from I after gaining the necessary knowledge and experience. Management reserves the right to modify work assignments and provide accommodations to perform essential duties. Some duties may be performed in a learning capacity at the entry level.
Responsibilities
Education and Experience
Librarian I : Equivalent to a master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program, or a bachelor’s degree with at least sixteen (16) semester units toward a master’s degree in Library Science.
Librarian II : Equivalent to a master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
Experience :
Librarian I : Two (2) years in a public, service-oriented position
Librarian II : Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience at a level equivalent to Librarian I with Kings County.
Licenses and Certifications
Licenses : Possession of a valid California driver’s license at the time of appointment.
Special Requirements
Qualify for security clearance through a background investigation and fingerprint check. Ability to work irregular hours (including evenings, weekends, and holidays) and to travel within and outside the County. Ability to drive the mobile library.
