Job Summary
Work under the supervision of area Crew Leader to provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment on various City properties. Communicate effectively and courteously with customers regarding special projects, events, and / or maintenance related concerns while providing superior customer service.
Examples of Duties
Collaborate with assigned crew leader to perform various maintenance according to work areas :
- Weed removal in landscape beds and medians
- Debris cleanup in landscape beds, medians, and right of ways
- Mitigating road hazards by pruning plants and trees
- Assisting in irrigation repairs
- Application of pesticides under the supervision of a licensed chemical applicator
- Off season tree trimming, chipping, and mulching
- Playground inspections, audits, and repairs
- Trail maintenance
- Planting, trimming, and removal of trees in parks and along trail systems
- Installation, maintenance, and repair of park and trail amenities
- Assisting with installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems in parks
- Debris cleanup and emptying of trash receptacles in parks and along trail systems
- Application of pesticides under the supervision of a licensed chemical applicator
- Oversee volunteer projects as needed
- Preparation (painting, chalking, setting bases, etc.) of athletic fields for games and tournaments
- Light maintenance of ball field fences
- Field aeration, renovation, and top dressing
- Maintenance and repair of pitcher's mounds, batter's boxes, and infield areas
- Assisting with installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems on athletic fields
- Custodial maintenance of athletic facility restrooms
- Debris cleanup and emptying of trash receptacles at athletic facilities
- Mowing and weed eating at athletic facilities as needed
- Application of pesticides under the supervision of a licensed chemical applicator
- Application of fertilizers and soil amendments on athletic fields
- Mowing (finish cut and rough cut), edging, and weed eating of open spaces, right of ways, and green belt areas
- Debris cleanup of open spaces and green belt areas
- Weekly sharpening of mowing deck blades
- Application of pesticides under the supervision of a licensed chemical applicator
- Off season tree trimming and chipping
- Operate power tools such as edgers, weed eaters, chain saws, rotary tillers, hammer drills, etc.
- Operate equipment such as zero turn mowers, utility vehicles, field groomers, and tractors with attachments.
- Clean and service vehicles and equipment as needed; prepare vehicles and tools for work assignments.
- Work extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed for special events.
- Attend various training classes to obtain information on current products, practices, and trends in the open space maintenance field.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with public, vendors, contractors, customers, staff, in writing and by phone.
- May be required to perform other department duties as assigned.

Required :
High school diploma or GEDValid Texas Driver's LicenseCompletion of an 8 hour TDA approved chemical safety class for application of herbicides / pesticides under the supervision of a licensed chemical applicator within 6 months of hirePreferred :
Background in open space / green belt maintenance, landscape maintenance, athletic field maintenance, or parks maintenance.
