This position is Contract to Hire and Open to Remote (CST or EST time zone)

PRE-SCREEN QUESTIONS :

• What database platforms and versions have you worked with : Oracle, HANA, MariaDB / MySQL, PostgreSQL, Progress OpenEdge, SQL Server and how would you rate your level of expertise in each?
• How would you describe your experience with performance tuning?
• How would you describe your knowledge of High Availability configurations?
• What is your level of experience with Unix shell scripting? Have you used Perl, Python, or other scripting languages for DBA tasks?
• What tools have you used for database monitoring and alerting?
• Have you worked with RMAN or other backup tools?

MANAGER'S NOTES :

Extensive experience in Oracle performance tuning, including : SQL query optimization, Index and execution plan analysis, AWR / ASH report interpretation, Use of Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and other diagnostic tools

Proven ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in OLTP and OLAP environments

Strong understanding of Oracle architecture, including memory structures, background processes, and storage management

Experience with Oracle high availability configurations such as : Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters), Data Guard (physical and logical standby).

Familiarity with performance tuning in other RDBMS platforms such as : MariaDB (e.g., slow query log analysis, optimizer hints), PostgreSQL (e.g., EXPLAIN plans, vacuum tuning), SAP HANA (e.g., query plan analysis, memory management)

PRIMARY PURPOSE :

To develop, implement and maintain the Enterprise database system in a combination UNIX / NT environment; and to develop policies, standards and procedures related to the database environment.

FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES :

Develops, implements and maintains the database system ensuring that the database environment is stable and capable of meeting ongoing business needs including logical and physical database design and implementation; structure testing of database designs, applications, and technology platform; security administration, backup and recovery planning; capacity planning; performance and tuning; research and evaluation of new tools and techniques. Develops, revises, and implements policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines to effectively administer the database environment. Plans and conducts structured testing of database designs to confirm functionality and performance. Develops and implements plans to oversee the database administration function, and ensures smooth transition to new technology. Assists with data and database administration including hardware and software evaluation and installation. Participates in task force to develop and implement a database system.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES :

Performs other duties as assigned. Supports the organization's quality program(s).

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education & Licensing Associate degree in computer-related study from an accredited college or university plus two (2) years computer-related experience required. Bachelor's degree in computer related study from an accredited college or university preferred. Related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required to include one (1) year Enterprise (Oracle, Progress, or SQL) development.
