SUMMARY
The Ophthalmic / Optometric Technician is responsible for providing the highest quality optometric patient care possible.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience :
- High school diploma or GED required
- Two years of optometric experience (not a must)
- Must complete the home study ophthalmic program within six months of employment.
- JCAHPO COA Certification required within 18 months of employment

The below duties will be taught during training.
Consistently performs proper documentation of case history, confrontation visual fields, pupil evaluation, screening extra-ocular muscle function, visual acuity, assessment of angle depth, instillation of diagnostic pharmaceutical agents, amsler grid and other functions as directed by clinical physician.Obtains eyeglass prescription via lensometer.Performs patient testing accurately and effectively as directed by the clinical provider(s) i.e. Slit Lamp Exam, PAMS, Visual Fields, Color Test, Tonometry, OCT’s, Fundus Photos, etc.If assigned to an ophthalmologist : must be able to refract with + / - .50 diopters.If assigned to a retina Physicians(s) : assists retina with intraocular injections as needed.Effectively communicates physician instructions to patients and documents accordingly.Assists the physician with pharmacy calls, patient calls, etc.Ensures scheduling template is being followed correctly.Ensures all patient lanes are clean and well-stocked at the end of each day.Ensures all equipment is turned off and covered properly at the end of the day.Completes tech station duties daily.Call in RX’s – Only certified ophthalmic techs can ERx. The exception is the tech can ERx if scribing for a doctor and the script is done under the doctor’s name.Must understand sterile technique.Professional and Personal Development / Goals and Objectives.Exhibits professional demeanor with a positive enthusiastic attitude at all times when representing the practice.Maintains certification, where applicable, and continues to improve skills. Must attend in-service and webinar training seminars as directed by the Clinical Manager.Sets goals and objectives for professional growth. Reviews and revises goals on an ongoing basis.Provides input on how to improve customer service, decrease costs, and increase revenues for the practice.Supports the practice and core values and mission statement to develop, enhance and promote quality customer service through team effort.Exhibits flexibility, sensitivity, and respect while maintaining an effective working relationship with all team members.Maintains practice confidentiality and follows HIPAA guidelines.Follows the rules and regulations of the practice as documented in the practice employee manual.Completes any additional tasks and responsibilities as requested by the Clinical Manager.Assumes other duties as assigned.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

OTHER

The Special Testing Technician must be able to travel to various satellite locations as needed for work assignments. A valid Florida driver’s license is required.
