Contract – 3 Months with a possibility of extension

Job Summary :

Responsible for assessing patients’ financial needs, assisting with payment arrangements, and guiding them through available financial assistance programs. Ensures compassionate communication, accurate documentation, and compliance with Froedtert Health policies and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patient financial situations and collect deposits per hospital billing and collection policies.
  • Screen and assist patients with applications for Medicaid, Insurance Exchange, and Froedtert Health Financial Assistance programs.
  • Counsel patients on eligibility and coverage options for various governmental and institutional aid programs.
  • Estimate costs of care, calculate patient deposits, and update financial records in patient accounting systems.
  • Collaborate with Admitting, Care Management, Social Services, and Physicians to resolve patient financial issues.
  • Monitor financial counselor work queues to ensure timely account resolution for self-pay or hardship cases.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation, insurance verification, precertification, and payment collection standards.
  • Provide backup coverage for financial counseling operations, including evening, weekend, or holiday shifts.
  • Assist patients during open enrollment for Qualified Health Plans and Insurance Affordability Programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to document storage, destruction, and compliance policies.
  • Stay updated with state, federal, and internal policy changes related to financial counseling and coverage assistance.

Skills & Qualifications :

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in healthcare revenue cycle, case management, or social work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Epic (preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Education & Certification
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Case Management, Healthcare or Business Administration preferred.
  • Certified Application Counselor (Wisconsin & Federal) designation required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
