Position Description

Ohlone College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for temporary part-time teaching assignments. Assignments may include day, evening and weekend courses and may be in-person, online or hybrid. Part-time faculty postings are continuous recruitments to create applicant pools to fill part-time temporary teaching assignments as needed. Applications are accepted year-round and remain in the pool for two years. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the Academic Division / Department schedule an interview.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Teach Physics in accordance with post-secondary level established course outlines.
  • Evaluate student work with clear criteria aligned to course content and student learning outcomes; provide timely feedback.
  • Maintain and submit accurate records (grades, syllabi, attendance) by published deadlines.
  • Create an equity-based and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Perform duties as described in Board policy, the United Faculty of Ohlone contract, the Faculty Handbook, and as assigned at the Fremont Campus, Newark Center, online via eCampus, or other locations.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics; OR Bachelor's Degree in physics or astronomy AND Master's Degree in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics; OR the equivalent. Must also demonstrate commitment to equity-based, anti-racist practices and serving a diverse student population. Evidence of responsiveness to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students is required.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Teaching experience at the community college level is desirable but not required.
  • Experience with innovative teaching methods that promote student engagement.
  • Experience creating inclusive syllabi and materials to support diverse learners.
  • Experience addressing equity issues; familiarity with supporting racially minoritized students; willingness to engage in participatory governance and teamwork.
  • Experience using course management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a team environment.
