Director Of Manufacturing Operations
BAE Systems, one of the world's largest defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 company, is hiring a Director of Manufacturing Operations for our Chemical Manufacturing Operations at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA. The Director of Manufacturing Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the manufacturing operations of the chemical manufacturing business. The role will work with the General Manager and Product Value Stream Leaders to plan, manufacture, and deliver product for government and commercial customers. The Director will maintain the Manufacturing Plant in a high state of readiness to meet emergency and replenishment requirements. Champion safety and ensure safe operations for all personnel assigned to the five manufacturing areas at the facility (Acids, Nitrocellulose, Solvent Propellants, Solventless Propellants / Rockets, and Nitroglycerin). Serve as a leader, mentor, and coach, and provide development strategies for the Propellant Plant workforce. Provide Technical Support and Manufacturing Expertise to Marketing & Sales, Research & Development, and other departments as needed. Ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of high-quality products, driving business growth and innovation.
This role will work on a 9 / 80 schedule where you will have every other Friday off.
Responsibilities :
- Lead Manufacturing Operations for the chemical manufacturing facility, ensuring compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM)
- Serve as a member of the senior leadership team and support the strategic direction of the business
- Oversee and manage all manufacturing operations, ensuring products are delivered on time and within budget
- Develop and implement manufacturing strategies, plans, and processes to achieve business objectives
- Set production strategic goals, integrating them into the annual operating plan and the five year business plan
- Develop and manage manufacturing budgets, forecasts, and financial plans to achieve business objectives
- Communicate manufacturing strategies, plans, and results to senior leadership, employees, and external stakeholders
- Oversee the production of chemical products, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies
- Manage and optimize manufacturing capacity, resource allocation, and workflow to meet customer demand and business needs
- Work with Product Value Stream Leaders for production scheduling and resource loading for the production areas
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business growth and innovation
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of manufacturing professionals
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement, promoting employee engagement and empowerment
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and efficiency gains, and develop plans to implement changes
- Implement and maintain industry-leading manufacturing practices, such as Lean and Six Sigma
- Analyze and optimize manufacturing costs, including labor, materials, and overhead
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and implement initiatives to reduce costs
- Serve as a member of the PPCB (Plant Process Control Board), which approves all changes to the manufacturing processes
- Liaise with the government staff, customers, and strategic suppliers on a regular basis
- Build and maintain relationships with customers, suppliers, and partners to ensure alignment with business objectives
- Liaise with both R&D and Modernization groups to ensure alignment with future production needs
- Ensure that all operations are conducted in conformance with all state and federal safety and environmental requirements
Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Full-Time Salary Range : $135556 - $230444 Please note : This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to : business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
