What You’ll Do
As a Highway Designer, you will support the planning and design of transportation infrastructure projects, primarily in Pennsylvania and surrounding regions, with exposure to a variety of urban and rural highway design initiatives. You’ll work closely with senior engineers, project managers, and technical staff on challenging, high‑impact projects that contribute to safer, more efficient roadway systems.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the design of highway and roadway projects including interchanges, intersection improvements, roadway widening, traffic management systems, ADA upgrades, and pedestrian safety enhancements.
Support development of horizontal and vertical alignments, typical sections, maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans, drainage layouts, and site grading.
Perform conceptual through final design work using Bentley software tools including OpenRoads Designer (ORD), MicroStation, and InRoads.
Interpret and apply relevant design standards including AASHTO, PennDOT, PTC, MUTCD, and ADA guidelines.
Participate in field visits and site evaluations to collect data and support design development.
Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams and contribute to project deliverables including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
0–4 years of relevant experience in highway, roadway, or civil infrastructure projects.
Working knowledge of Bentley design tools (MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads Designer); training available for strong candidates.
Understanding of transportation engineering fundamentals and ability to apply design criteria in real‑world applications.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
