Lead Engineer to help lead StackAdapt's growing backend engineering team. Our real-time advertising bidding system handles high volume data and requests daily, and we work with a diverse set of technologies including Go, Ruby on Rails, Aerospike, Redis, Elasticsearch, Kafka, RocksDB, Redshift, ScyllaDB, GraphQL and more. StackAdapt is a remote-first company open to candidates anywhere in the United States or Canada.

What you'll be doing

  • Architect scalable, low-latency backend systems and data pipelines. Write code as needed to support the team.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers within the backend distributed systems group.
  • Promote software development best practices and conduct rigorous code reviews.
  • Identify and solve technical challenges and drive production-ready solutions.
  • Conduct interviews to attract and identify high-performing candidates.
  • Balance and prioritize projects to maximize efficiency and align with company objectives.

What you'll bring to the table

  • Extensive experience with big data processing at multi-terabyte scales.
  • Strong technical leadership with the ability to define and drive long-term engineering strategies.
  • Hybrid expertise in data engineering and software development with experience building scalable data systems.
  • Hands-on experience with data warehouse technologies is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with tools like Trino / Presto, Snowflake, and other modern data warehouse platforms is a plus.
  • Track record of building and scaling robust data pipelines and systems in production.
  • Strategic thinker who can lead technically and inspire the team to deliver high-impact, scalable solutions.
