Overview
APP - Advanced Practice Provider - Orthopedic Surgery Trauma Inpatient / Clinic at OU Health. This role involves serving as an independent healthcare provider (APP : PA-C and NP) in a multidisciplinary team, with responsibilities in outpatient and / or inpatient settings. The APP conducts assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs, within their scope of practice as defined by state law, licensing, regulations, and institutional policy.
Responsibilities
- Clinical : Performs history and physical assessments appropriate for age, gender and clinical problem. Orders diagnostic studies and interprets results. Develops, implements, evaluates, and alters the plan of care. Maintains accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Patient Care : Delivers patient- and family-centered care, promotes health, prevents illness, and treats disease throughout the lifespan. Coordinates care and communicates clearly with the healthcare team. Involves patients and families in care planning. Considers cost effectiveness and risk / benefit analyses. Applies evidence-based medicine to improve care practices. Develops and implements standards of care within area of specialization (policies, protocols).
- Research : Participates in research opportunities to advance patient care.
- Communication : Communicates and collaborates with physicians, other health professionals and agencies. Counsels and educates patients and families. Acts as an advocate for patients in navigating the health system.
- Activities : Participates in education of students and health professionals. Attends organizational meetings, committees and workgroups. Engages in quality initiatives and promotes interdisciplinary practice.
Qualifications
Education : Graduate of an accredited nursing program for APRN (MSN or Master's in Physician Assistant Studies) as applicable.Experience : 3+ years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in the designated specialty preferred.Licensure / Certification / Registration : Must have prescriptive authority within 6 months of hire. Active RN and APNP license in OklahomaCertification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ANCC and / or AANP)IF Physician Assistant
Active PA license in OklahomaActive PA certification (NCCPA)Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants must obtain the required licensure from the State of Oklahoma within 30 days after the offer of employment.

Active DEA license or ability to apply for one prior to or upon hireCPR certification and Advanced Life Support certifications as relevant to practice area (ACLS, PALS, NRP). Basic Life Support required at hire. Certifications to be obtained within 90 days of employment as applicable.Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of etiologies, risk factors, pathophysiology, presentation and epidemiology of medical conditions.Clinical expertise in managing acute and chronic illnesses; proficiency in procedural skills pertinent to the practice area.Strong clinical knowledge, communication, teamwork, professionalism and systems-based practice.Accountability for professional practice and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.Understanding of pharmacologic agents, indications, contraindications and interactions; ability to manage general medical and surgical conditions.Ethical practice regarding confidentiality, informed consent and management of adverse outcomes.Excellent verbal and written communication; effective with patients and families.Critical thinking, data synthesis and synthesis of information from multiple sources.Willingness to engage in self-improvement and lifelong learning; adaptability and resilience; flexible scheduling including 24 / 7, weekends and on-call as required.Proficiency with Windows-based software and role-specific systems; ability to travel between facilities.Additional Information
