The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. We now seek a full-time Structural Detailer located in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Responsible for the detailing of structural drawings of bridges and other highway-related structures that enhance public safety and improve the state transportation system.
Cheyenne is a steadily growing community along the Front Range, but still true to the history of the Old West. The city offers nearby access to mountain biking, skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. Wyoming is one of only nine states with no state income tax.

With some direction, produces accurate structural details for steel and concrete bridges and other highway-related structuresUsing computer-aided drafting software creates accurate and complete structural details by referencing engineering computations, utilizing engineering theory, reviewing project-specific data, and following proper detailing procedures and office standardsObtains records and information for use in working drawingsVerifies and makes corrections and additions to structural detailsCalculates estimated quantities of materials required for contract bidding, construction, and project costsCommunicate with designers to ensure structural drawings are in compliance with engineering computationsRecommends minor adjustments in design to achieve simplicity and contractibilityUtilizes trigonometry, algebra, and geometry to calculate reinforcing steel lengths and laps, girder piece lengths, cross-frame lengths, gusset plate dimensions, etc.Participates in the review of drafting standardsParticipates in technician meetings to review detailing standardsKnowledge
Knowledge of the Bridge Program and industry drafting standardsKnowledge of drafting principles, practices, standards, and office policies that relate to structural detailingKnowledge and understanding of the practical applications of algebra, trigonometry, and geometrySkill in the use of computer-aided design and drafting software (Microstation and AutoCAD), word processing (Word), and spreadsheet (Excel) computer applicationsAbility to produce clean, legible, and organized workAbility to give attention to details and work under pressureAbility to work well with othersMinimum Qualifications
Education : Associate's Degree (typically in Engineering) Experience : 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in the Transportation occupational group) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Design Technician OR Education & ExperienceSubstitution : 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in the Transportation occupational group) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Design Technician Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : None
