Position Overview
We’re seeking an experienced Divisional General Superintendent to lead field operations for the Underground Wet Utilities division. This senior field leadership role oversees multiple concurrent projects—including water, sewer, storm drain, and fire line installations—ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery from start to finish.
The ideal candidate is a strategic, hands-on leader with extensive experience managing large-scale wet utility field operations, mentoring teams, and driving consistent project performance. This role serves as the operational backbone between field and office leadership, ensuring seamless execution across all phases of construction.
Key Responsibilities Field Operations & Project Execution
Direct and oversee daily field operations for multiple underground wet utility projects.
Manage and coordinate Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews to ensure alignment with company objectives, project schedules, and client expectations.
Ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Collaborate with project teams to review drawings, specifications, and constructability for accuracy and clarity.
Support Superintendents in scheduling manpower, material deliveries, and equipment deployment.
Develop long-term (30-week) schedules and oversee short-term (3- and 6-week) look-ahead plans.
Anticipate and resolve field challenges proactively, maintaining compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
Leadership & Team Development
Lead, mentor, and evaluate Superintendents, Foremen, and crews to build strong, skilled field teams.
Oversee onboarding, training, and continuous skill development programs.
Conduct regular coordination meetings and one-on-one performance check-ins.
Participate in recruiting, performance management, and leadership succession planning.
Collaborate with executive leadership (General Manager, Director / VP of Construction) to align field operations with company growth goals.
Safety, Risk & Compliance
Champion a safety-first culture across all job sites.
Partner with the Safety Team for audits, inspections, and compliance monitoring.
Ensure adherence to OSHA regulations, PPE requirements, and company safety protocols.
Promote organized, hazard-free work areas and ensure prompt incident response.
Equipment & Resource Management
Oversee the allocation and maintenance of company equipment, tools, and materials.
Coordinate with Equipment and Fleet departments for repairs, inspections, and utilization tracking.
Monitor field productivity, resource usage, and crew efficiency across projects.
Communication & Reporting
Serve as the primary communication link between field operations and office teams.
Deliver timely updates on job progress, productivity, challenges, and site conditions.
Ensure accurate completion of daily logs, timecards, and reports through construction software.
Maintain transparent communication with clients, project managers, and key stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and consistency.
Stay informed on industry trends, technology innovations, and regulatory changes.
Promote accountability, innovation, and continuous learning within field teams.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in underground wet utility construction (water, sewer, storm drain, fire line).
5+ years in a leadership or multi-project supervisory role .
Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex schedules, and coordinate multiple active job sites.
Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Proficiency with construction scheduling and field management software.
Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulatory compliance (OSHA 30 preferred).
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
Experience with both union and non-union workforces is a plus.
Physical Requirements
Full mobility in upper and lower body.
Ability to stand, kneel, or squat for extended periods.
Capable of lifting or moving up to 25 lbs occasionally.
