About the Role We are seeking an experienced Application Engineer with strong full-stack development and database integration expertise to support both the discovery / assessment phase and the implementation / execution phase of a SQL Server 2017 to Azure SQL migration program.

During the discovery phase, the engineer will focus on assessing full-stack applications (UI, middleware, and database layers) that rely on SQL Server, identifying dependencies, and documenting migration requirements.

During the implementation phase, the engineer will contribute to remediation, code refactoring, environment configuration, migration testing, and rollout support.

The Application Engineer will collaborate closely with database engineers, cloud architects, and client stakeholders to ensure seamless migration and minimal business disruption.

Key Responsibilities Discovery & Assessment (Phase 1) Inventory and document full-stack applications (front-end, middleware, back-end) tied to SQL Server databases.

Analyze data access methods, ORM frameworks, stored procedures, and authentication models for Azure SQL compatibility.

Map dependencies across APIs, reporting systems, messaging, and ETL pipelines.

Assess performance implications and provide preliminary recommendations for tuning and optimization.

Contribute to risk, impact, and dependency documentation in migration backlog.

Implementation & Execution (Phase 2) Application Remediation :

  • Modify / refactor application code to address compatibility issues (connection strings, deprecated features, authentication model updates).
  • Implement changes in configuration, middleware, and front-end components as needed to support Azure SQL.

Environment & Deployment Support :

  • Assist with environment setup, configuration, and integration with Azure services (App Services, Key Vault, Networking).
  • Collaborate with DevOps / infra teams to update CI / CD pipelines for applications post-migration.

    • Testing & Validation :

  • Develop and execute unit, integration, and regression tests for applications after database migration.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and coordinate defect resolution with stakeholders.

    • Cutover & Rollout Support :

  • Participate in migration cutover events to validate applications in Azure SQL environments.
  • Provide post-migration support, troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer to client teams.
  • Requirements Comfortable working across the entire application stack (UI, middleware, services, and database tiers).
  • Hands-on experience in both assessment (analysis, dependency mapping, planning) and implementation (refactoring, remediation, rollout) phases of migration projects.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with architects, DB engineers, and client SMEs, and explain risks / solutions to technical and business stakeholders.
  • Practical experience with data migration projects, preferably SQL Server → Azure SQL or Managed Instance. 5+ years of professional experience in full-stack application engineering (front-end frameworks, middleware / API development, back-end services). 3+ years of experience working directly with SQL Server (queries, stored procedures, ORM frameworks, performance optimization). 2+ years of data or cloud migration project experience (Azure preferred) covering both discovery and implementation.
  • Proven experience in application remediation and testing for cloud-hosted databases.
  • Experience with Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance migrations.
  • Knowledge of front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue) and middleware (REST APIs, microservices).
  • Experience with CI / CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins).

    • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS).   Additional Information Duration :

  • 2-3 months contract with the possibility of extensions depending on business needs and performance.

    • Rate :

  • $60- $80 / hr C2C.  Requirements : Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, now or in the future.
