Position Description

We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented individual to join our team at the National Ranching Heritage Center (NRHC) . In this role, you will be essential in supporting events and ensuring the safety and security of all guests at the facilities. You will also assist in the visitor reception area by welcoming guests and providing them with an orientation to the NRHC.

As a member of the Guard / Visitor Relations team, your responsibilities will include supporting NRHC programs and events, monitoring the indoor and outdoor portions of the facility to ensure a safe environment for guests and providing support to staff during daily programming, special events, and facility rentals.

About the Department and / or College

The National Ranching Heritage Center (NRHC), located north of the Texas Tech University campus on 4th St, is a 27.5 acre museum and historical park with 48 ranching structures and objects dating to the early 19th Century. In addition to the historical park, NRHC has 38 life-size bronze outdoor art pieces and a 44,000 square foot museum building with six galleries featuring permanent, as well as temporary exhibits of art, photography and artifacts that capture historical and contemporary Western life. A dynamic institution that tells ranching's story, NRHC also provides a range of educational programs for children, youth and adults focusing on pioneer history, western culture, natural resource management and other current and historical ranching subjects.

Major / Essential Functions

• Event and Program Support : Assist with preparation, setup, monitoring, and breakdown of NRHC events and facility rentals. Provide on-site support to staff, vendors, and guests to ensure seamless execution of events. Address immediate needs or concerns that arise during evening and weekend events such as audio / visual troubleshooting, keeping the facility orderly and clean, and emptying trash receptacles.
• Visitor Safety and Comfort : Monitor public areas and the historical park to identify safety concerns and ensure that all lighting and HVAC systems are functioning properly. Promptly report any issues to the appropriate staff. Respond quickly and appropriately to injuries, hazards, or security incidents and report them accurately to the appropriate departments and staff.
• Facility Management : Responsible for opening and closing the NRHC main building and all historical park structures. Watch for inclement weather and consult with the lead guard to take appropriate measures to protect guests and structures. Monitor visitor areas for maintenance or cleanliness issues and correct the issue or report to the appropriate staff. Ensure that all exhibit technology and event-space audio / visual systems are functioning properly and have a basic understanding on how to troubleshoot issues.
• Security and Enforcement : Politely enforce museum rules and policies. Monitor for vandalism or illegal activity and serve as a visible presence during events and daily operations. Monitor security cameras when at the front kiosk and be aware of where visitors are in the facilities. Maintain familiarity with TTU and Lubbock emergency procedures.
• Visitor Reception and Information : Serve as a backup in the visitor reception area. Greet visitors warmly, track visitor counts, and orient guests about their visit to the NRHC, including exhibit details, upcoming events, and a brief description of what to expect while visiting the center. Maintain an accurate log of all other visitors, groups, meeting guests, and outside contractors. Stay informed about NRHC events, meetings, exhibits and other resources to knowledgably refer guests to the correct staff member or event area.
• Collaboration with Staff : Work closely with all staff members to ensure smooth operations, including assisting with deliveries, and coordination of maintenance needs for visitor areas.
• All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required Qualifications

Proficiency in written and mathematical processes as may be reflected by the completion of the tenth grade plus one year of security, customer service, public relations or related experience.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
