Responsibilities Work in an acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit 54-bed unit with both private and semi-private rooms Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, neuroscience cases, and some medical overflow Day shift, 12-hour shifts (0700-1900), scheduled as three 12-hour shifts per week Weekend rotation required every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) Holiday rotation required every other holiday Nurse-to-patient ratios : Days 1 : 4-5, Nights 1 : 5-6 Required to float in rotation with staff; full assignment given when floated to general units Call is not required Uses Epic EMR; prior Epic experience preferred Titration of heparin drips required; must have heparin gtt experience Telemetry monitored with Phillips monitors; nurses not required to read strips Nurses supported by 24 / 7 charge nurse and house supervisor who generally do not take patient assignments Nurse aides / patient care techs present with standard ratios per shift RNs may occasionally manage stable COVID patients on high flow oxygen, but COVID cases are rare Orientation includes two days with educator and one day preceptorship No required scrub color; visible tattoos must be covered, and only ear piercings allowed Local candidates accepted, with local pay rate applying if within 50 miles of the facility No COVID vaccination required for employment Requirements Active IL RN license required at time of consideration Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required Minimum 1 year of RN experience Prior dedicated neuro unit experience required Previous travel nurse experience required (first-time travelers not accepted) Level 1 trauma experience required Heparin titration experience required Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-624790.
