High Voltage Electrician Lead
Tessera is seeking a skilled and safety-focused High Voltage Electrician Lead to conduct power distribution operations at USAFA. This role involves overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage systems across underground and overhead networks, substations, and vaults. You'll lead a team of electricians, ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and DoD standards, and coordinate critical electrical work that supports base infrastructure.
Typical duties include but are not limited to :
- Install high voltage components including transformers, capacitors, insulators, lightning arrestors, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, meters, protective devices, and poles
- Maintain and service transformers, voltage regulators, and circuit breakers to ensure consistent power distribution
- Repair damaged or malfunctioning power cables, transformers, insulators, switches, and electrical panels
- Troubleshoot complex electrical faults and implement safe, effective solutions
- Operate aerial trucks, bucket lifts, and specialized equipment to access elevated systems
- Perform work in high voltage electric vaults, substations, and underground / overhead distribution systems
- Lead field crews during installations and repairs, ensuring proper execution of tasks and safety compliance
- Train junior electricians and apprentices on technical procedures, safety protocols, and equipment usage
- Inspect completed work for adherence to electrical codes, safety standards, and project specifications
- Follow strict safety protocols including lockout / tagout, arc flash protection, and PPE usage
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals
- Document inspections, repairs, and service records accurately using CMMS
- Coordinate with base personnel for scheduled outages, emergency repairs, and system upgrades
Qualifications :
Associate degree in Electrical Technology or related field preferredMinimum 5 years of experience in high voltage electrical systems, preferably in military or federal environmentsValid High Voltage Electrician Journeyman License in good standingStrong understanding of electrical principles, materials, and safety standards for systems above 600 voltsGeneral mechanical aptitude and knowledge of electronic control circuitryFamiliarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA 1910 Subpart S, and DoD electrical infrastructure standardsAbility to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme weather conditionCapability to lead field crews and inspect work for compliance with standardsExperience in training junior personnel on technical and safety proceduresPhysical Requirements :
May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.Requirements :
A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance.Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative, such as a U.S. passport or military ID, in accordance with the REAL ID Act.Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access.
