Intermittent Fitness Instructor (Recreational Sports)

NOTE :   Specifically hiring for kickboxing instructors.

Definition and Purpose

Under the supervision of the Assistant Coordinator - Fitness Programs, the Fitness Instructors teach a variety of classes currently offered within the Group Exercise and Instructional Class Program. The staff is responsible for developing individual lesson plans, being familiar with various styles of class formats offered, supervising class participants, and leading instructional sessions.

Requirements

Educational and Qualifying Experience, Skills, Licenses, Credentials

• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, muscular function, exercise program implementation, safe group exercise, or instructional procedures and use of related class materials and / or equipment.
• Professional instructor certification in related field or prior training.
• Ability to be highly organized and have good planning skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• First Aid, CPR and AED Certification required.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and those with special limitations or needs.
• Extensive knowledge of classes being taught.
• Understanding of current trends in area of expertise.
• Previous experience in supervising and meeting participants in an instructional environment.
• Ability to learn new formats.
• Consistent attendance at continuing education workshops, lectures, and conferences.

Background Check

This position is subject to a background check (including criminal records) as well as National Address Locater (Social Security Number [SSN] Trace), 7 year County Criminal Search in each county and / or state the applicant lived in based on the SSN Trace, National Criminal Database Search, Name Search, Employment Verification (All employers in past 7 years) and Education Verification (Highest Degree). Credit Reports, Motor Vehicle Record Check and Professional License Verification may also be required based upon the essential functions of the position.

Period of Employment

Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time and ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.

Position may require early morning, late night, weekend and holiday availability.

Weekday evening availability between 6 : 30 - 8 : 00 pm for classes is preferred
