Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Tele position requiring a compact or ME license and strong medical-surgical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a Medical Surgical Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
  • Unit includes 44 private and semi-private rooms
  • Patient population includes a wide range of medical diagnoses except primary cardiac patients, such as stroke, COPD, respiratory illnesses, GI bleed, renal failure, electrolyte imbalance, and non-operable fractures
  • Telemetry monitoring is required for patients
  • Night shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM with every other weekend required
  • RN patient ratios are 1 : 5-6 on nights, may vary with patient acuity
  • Required to float to any area with Med / Surg Tele patients as needed
  • Uses Cerner (EMR experience not required), Alaris, and Pyxis equipment
  • Primary responsibilities include managing complex medical surgical patients on telemetry, with skills required for various infusions and acute interventions
  • Previous charge nurse experience is highly preferred and those with this experience should indicate willingness to take charge when needed
  • Support staff includes CNA, charge nurse (no patient assignment), 24 / 7 house supervisor, RT, hospitalist, and therapy services during days
  • Orientation includes 2 days of hospital training and 1 shift on the unit
  • Requires compliance with flu vaccination policies; medical exemptions are reviewed on a case by case basis
  • Professional scrubs of any color are allowed; crocs with holes and artificial nails are not permitted
  • No holiday time off (RTO) is accepted; other RTO must be approved by manager
  • Free parking available in designated areas
  • First-time travelers are considered

    • Requirements

  • Active ME or compact state RN license
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Med / Surg Tele RN experience required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • NIHSS and ACLS certifications are preferred
  • Strong skills in reading and interpreting rhythm strips and ability to manage cardiac, insulin, and heparin drips
  • Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, wound care, IV antibiotics, tube / drain management, IV starts, and central line management
  • Ability and willingness to float as needed
  • Perm address must be 100+ miles south or southwest of Bangor, ME
  • Cannot have worked permanently at any Northern Light Health hospital
